Michael Ryan, RA, AIA, NCARB, CCS, CCCA, CSI
Architect Member Director
Michael Ryan began his architectural studies at Anne Arundel Community College in 1978. He graduated in 1980 and transferred to Catholic University of America, where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. After several years in private practice, he pursued teaching full time at Anne Arundel Community College. He also formed his own firm in 1989 to provide residential design services.
He became the Department Chair for the Architecture program at the college in 1995, and since then, has expanded the department to offer Interior Design, Construction Management and Landscape Design degrees. Under his leadership, the department has twice won the Department of Education’s Best Post-Secondary Program Award. In May 2024, Mike was awarded Emeritus Status (the highest honor the college gives out to retired faculty) by the college’s Board of Trustees.
Mike recently retired from AACC and continues to pursue architecture with his company Ryan Architecture. He has been a member of the Board of AIA Chesapeake Bay since 2010, and is proud to have taught many of the college’s graduates who are now licensed professionals in the Chapter and throughout the state. He is instrumental in the Chapter’s Design Awards program and has served as a juror or jury advisor for other AIA Chapters several times.
